Online seminar "Biotechnology in Kazakhstan: Global Challenges uring Pandemic"



On October 21, 2020, within the framework of the activities of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan (PCK) and in accordance with the approved decision of the Presidium of Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences (KNANS) "The PСK Action Plan for 2020", an online seminar on the topic "Biotechnology in Kazakhstan: Global Challenges during Pandemic" was held at KAFU. The event was organized by the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan with the participation of the PCK Youth Branch.
The seminar was opened by the Head of the Proteomics and Mass Spectrometry laboratory of the RSE "National Center for Biotechnology" of the Science Committee of Ministry of Educationa and Science of Kazakhstan, a member of the Youth Department of the PCK, PhD - Pavel Tarlykov.
Within the framework of the seminar, the development of vaccines and test systems for the diagnosis of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Kazakhstan were discussed.

Haydar Tasibekov, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, Associate Professor of Al-Farabi KazNU,
Zhaksylyk Masalimov, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor, ENU named after Gumilyov,
Seit Aliev , Director of the Information Center for Atomic Energy, Nur-Sultan.
The global spread of the new coronavirus has radically changed our lives, and the challenge was thrown, including biotechnology - the branch of science that is responsible for the development of preventive and diagnostic methods to combat the pandemic.
The seminar was attended by students, undergraduates, doctoral students and university teachers.
