Application of Artificial Intelligence in Psychology: A Practical Class for Students

On February 19, 2025, within the framework of the discipline “Methodological Problems of Theoretical and Practical Psychology”, a practical class was held on the possibilities of using modern information technologies and artificial intelligence when writing a course project for students of the EP “Psychology”. The class was conducted by senior lecturer of the department Irina A. Fedorova, who introduced the participants to current AI tools used in scientific research. Students learned how to use neural networks to analyze large arrays of data, generate hypotheses, automate a literature review and visualize results.

Particular attention was paid to the ethical aspects of how to avoid plagiarism, critically evaluate AI findings and maintain academic integrity. There was a discussion on the role of technology in overcoming the cognitive distortions of the researcher, and a case study method was implemented to develop skills in using neural networks in working with data. “Today, psychology does not exist without an interdisciplinary approach,” Irina A. Fedorova noted. “Artificial intelligence does not replace critical thinking, but it becomes a powerful assistant that saves time and expands the possibilities of analysis.” Students also presented their own ideas for integrating technology into their coursework, which allowed them to apply their acquired knowledge in practice.
