Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) – the third level of higher education. The training on PhD programs runs on state scholarships and on a fee-paying basis.

Conditions of Applying for PhD
Requirements for PhD applicants:
- Master’s academic degree;
- Experience not less than 9 (nine) months.
The training in PhD is carried out on the basis of educational programs of the master’s program in the scientific and pedagogical direction.
Masters of specialized training who have mastered the educational program of postgraduate education of a pedagogical profile are also accepted for PhD studies.
The candidates applying for PhD are to take an entrance exam (EE).
In Summer:
- acceptance of Entrance Exam applications: from July 3 to August 3 of the calendar year
- Entrance exam is held from August 4 to August 20.
- Enrollment – until 28 August.
In Autumn-Fall:
- acceptance of Entrance Exam applications: from November 1 till November 18 of the calendar year
- Entrance Exam is held from November 19 till December 11.

List of Documents Required for Enrollment
List of required documents for participation in the competition for a state educational grant and for a fee-paying basis:
- an application addressed to the head of the University (in any form);
- a diploma (original, when submitting documents to the admission committee);
- identification document (required for personal identification);
- official certificate of passing the state language exam (KAZTEST) issued by the National Test Center;
- a certificate confirming knowledge of a foreign language:
– English proficiency:
- International English Language Tests System Academic, admission score – not less than 46 points;;
- Test of English as a Foreign Language Institutional Testing Program Internet-based Test, admission score – not less than 46 points;
- Test of English as a Foreign Language Paper-based testing, admission score – not less than 453;
- Test of English as a Foreign Language Institutional Testing Programm (TOEFL ITP), admission score – not less than 460;
– German proficiency:
- Deutsche Sprachpruеfung fuеr den Hochschulzugang Niveau В2 (DSH, Niveau В2) – В2 level;
- TestDaF-Prufung Niveau В2 (TDF Niveau В2) – В2 level;
– French proficiency:
- Test de Français International (TFI) – not lower than B2 level in reading and listening;
- Diplome d’Etudes en Langue français (DELF) – B2 level;
- Diplome Approfondi de Langue français (DALF) – B2 level;
- Test de connaissance du français (TCF) – less than 50 points.
- a medical certificate in the form 075/u in electronic format, approved by order No. ҚR DSM-175/2020.
In cases of implementation of restrictive measures, the introduction of a state of emergency, the occurrence of emergency situations of a social, natural and man-made nature in a certain territory, a medical certificate is provided directly to the educational organization as these measures are cancelled;
- 4 3×4 cm photographs;
- a document on personnel records or other document confirming labor activity, certified by the HR department at the place of work;
- a list of scientific and scientific-methodical works (scientific publications, research plan, essays and other documents) for the last 3 calendar years.
Persons with a certificate (TOEFL ITP (Test of English as a Foreign Language Institutional Testing Program) take additional testing for knowledge of English before the start of the entrance exam to doctoral studies.
The number of test tasks for additional testing for knowledge of the English language is 100 questions. The maximum score is 100 points.
Additional testing for knowledge of the English language is assessed in the form – “admission” or “non-admission”. You must score at least 75 points in order to qualify.
Admission scores for PhD applicants:
Enrollment of applicants in doctoral studies on a paid basis is carried out on the basis of an international certificate confirming knowledge of a foreign language in accordance with the pan-European competencies (standards) of foreign language proficiency and based on the results of an entrance exam for a group of doctoral educational programs and who scored at least 75 points out of 100 points possible.
For international applicants
Admission of foreign citizens to study on a paid basis is carried out based on the results of an interview conducted by the admission committee during the calendar year. Enrollment of foreign citizens is carried out in accordance with the academic calendar 5 (five) days before the start of the next academic period.
International applicants must be ready with the following documents:
- Medical certificate confirming the absence of diseases that may prevent the training;
- Medical insurance;
- Certificate confirming the presence or absence of a criminal record.
Note:
Documents submitted in a foreign language must have a notarized translation into Kazakh or Russian. Documents on education issued by foreign educational organizations undergo the nostrification procedure in accordance with the procedure established by law after enrollment of applicants, during the first semester of study.
