Practical Lesson on the Basics of Psychological Counseling: Qigong Therapy

On November 27, 2024, an unusual practical lesson on the subject “Basics of Psychological Counseling” was held for 3rd-year students of the EP “Psychology” of the Kazakh-American Free University. The topic of the lesson was the directions of modern group therapy. The event was held by an invited specialist in body-oriented therapy, Qigong trainer, Master of Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Wushu (Tai Chi Chuan) Tatyana G. Borta.

During the lesson, students got acquainted with the eastern body practice of Qigong – Chinese health gymnastics that combines meditation, breathing techniques and physical exercises performed at a slow pace. The term “Qigong” consists of two words: Qi – “energy”, “air”, “breath” and Gong – “achievement”, “strength”. Together they mean “cultivating energy” or “working with energy”.

Qigong is based on the movement of Qi energy in the body and the use of human energy channels. Regular practice helps to strengthen both physical and psycho-emotional health, increasing the body’s resistance to stress and illness.

During the class, students mastered self-regulation techniques, increasing awareness, developing sensitivity and relaxation. Methods of using Eastern body practices in psychological counseling were also considered.

At the end of the class, Tatyana Borta answered students’ questions, telling in detail about the features of using Qigong practice in counseling activities.

We thank Tatyana Borta for her cooperation!
