30th Anniversary of KAFU: Roundtable on “International Experience in Mediation and Conflict Resolution”

On September 24, 2024, the Kazakh-American Free University hosted a Roundtable on “International Experience in Mediation and Conflict Resolution”. The event was held as part of the celebration of the university’s 30th anniversary and brought together professionals from the United States, Kazakhstan and the Philippines, including mediators, lawyers, teachers and psychologists. Representatives of non-profit organizations and the faculty of KAFU and S. Amanzholov Higher School of Law took part in the discussion.

The purpose of the Roundtable was to discuss current issues of mediation and alternative methods of conflict resolution, as well as the exchange of international experience and knowledge in this area. The speakers shared practical approaches to the use of mediation in various areas of public life, including legal, pedagogical and moral and ethical aspects.

  • Sol Garner Dolojan, Executive Director, Shepherd’s Home of Several Leadership (Batangas, Philippines);
  • Irina Fedorova, Senior Lecturer, Department of Pedagogy and Psychology, KAFU;
  • Marzhan Tazhieva, PhD student, KAFU, Senior Lecturer, Department of Law and International Relations;
  • Elena Nikolaevna Kaliakperova, Doctor of Law, Professor, Sarsen Amanzholov Higher School of Law.

The event facilitated an active exchange of opinions between the participants, who discussed practical tools for resolving disputes and conflicts with the participation of a mediator. The Round Table covered international and national approaches to mediation, which strengthened cooperation between specialists from different countries and fields of activity.

The results of the Round Table emphasized the importance of mediation as one of the most important methods of peaceful dispute resolution in modern society.
