Collage works by a teacher from the Department of Foreign Languages are on display at the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan
The exhibition “Aiel Tizginde” (“Woman at the Helm”), a project by the Kazakhstani automobile company Allur, has opened at the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
This year, the initiative was implemented as a major national competition. Over 1,000 applications were received, in which the authors sought to rethink the role of women through artistic imagery, going beyond conventional stereotypes.
The works were evaluated by a jury consisting of renowned artists, art historians, and public figures. Following the selection process, approximately 200 participants were given the opportunity to present their works in the exhibition.
The exhibition brings together works from various artistic styles and formats—from painting and sculpture to performance and digital art. The exhibit also features collage works by Anna A. Oskolkova, a resident of KAFU Creative Hub and a senior lecturer in the Department of Foreign Languages. She participated in the project with a series of original collages dedicated to female images. Her works explore the multifaceted nature of female identity, combining elements of photography, graphics, and symbolic imagery. The collages reflect various aspects of women’s roles in modern society and highlight their inner strength, freedom of expression, and creative potential.
1. Title: Lady or Tigress?
Brief Description: The woman’s face and the image of a tiger are combined into a single composition, blurring the line between human and animal nature. The contrast between realistic photography and acrylic brushstrokes creates an effect of internal duality. The heroine’s gaze enhances a sense of strength and mystery, while the caption “The Lady or the Tiger?” emphasizes the theme of choice and hidden nature.
2. Title: Alice
Brief Description: The collage combines a female image, cityscapes, and symbols of creativity. A girl with a ball of thread over her heart seems to guard her inner world, connecting it with the rhythm of the big city. Fragments of a drawing, shoes, and flowers create a sense of multi-layeredness and self-discovery. The work conveys the idea of fragility, self-expression, and the connection of personal space with the outside world.
3. Title: Mother River
Brief Description: The collage is based on the imagery of water, torn paper, and a notebook background. Layers of blue shades create a sense of movement and depth, as if a stream of memory flows through the pages. A figure in national costume and handwritten lines about the lives and memories of ancestors imbue the work with cultural and philosophical meaning, linking nature, history, and personal experience.
4. Title: Fashion Victim
Brief Description: The collage explores the idea of pursuing fashion or the absolute ideal of beauty among women. In the pursuit of maintaining external beauty, women sometimes forget about their inner beauty. They want to shine with new jewelry, stand out with tattoos, and wear bright makeup. External gloss doesn’t guarantee inner harmony and support.
5. Title: Roman Holiday
Short Description: A tired girl rests on the Spanish Steps in Rome. She’s long dreamed of visiting Rome and seeing all its sights with her own eyes. Strolling through the Italian streets, she carries herself with the same pride as the local femme fatales.
We wish Anna A. Oskolkova a future creative success!
