CENTRAL ASIAN TEENS TALK

Through a unique partnership with the Central Asian Teens Talk team, led by Dr. Nancy Ackels, KAFU is pleased to make the Central Asian Teens Talk materials available on our site as a resource to English teachers around the world. This site is based on American Teens Talk, also developed by Dr. Ackels, which can be accessed through the American English site of the U.S. Department of State.

The materials on this site are authored and owned by the Central Asian Teens Talk team, and are made available for free use by English teachers around the world under Creative Commons licenses CC-BY or CC-BY-SA. The young people found in the videos of these materials, along with their parents and/or legal guardians, have given full consent to their use for the purposes of English teaching.  Signed consent forms are available upon request.

1. American Teens Talk

This collection of interviews with American teens includes audio but not video recordings. On pages 64-68 there is excellent information on language teaching theory, activities that can be done using the interviews, and suggestions for using these kinds of materials in low-resource contexts including working without electricity.

2. Exploring and Expressing Culture through Project-Based Learning, by Ramin Yazdanpanah. in English Teaching Forum 2019 pp. 2-13.

Yazdanpanah developed a project-based learning activity titled Vietnamese Teens Talk! and gives detailed directions for completing a similar activity. See pages 9-11 of the article.

3. Building Intercultural Competence through Project-Based Learning

This short video from American English defines intercultural competence and gives directions for a class project creating interviews similar to ones in Central Asian Teens Talk.
