Guest Lecture by Professor Douglas Mooney (USA): Gaming Technologies in Foreign Language Teaching
On March 13, 2026, the Department of Foreign Languages at the Kazakh-American Free University hosted a guest lecture by Professor Douglas Mooney (USA), dedicated to the topic of using gaming technologies in teaching foreign languages.
The event was attended by students of the educational programs 6B01703 “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” and 7M01701 (2) “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages,” as well as faculty members of the Department of Foreign Languages.
During the lecture, Professor Mooney presented modern approaches to gamification of learning, demonstrated examples of integrating gaming elements into the educational process, and discussed how gaming technologies can enhance student motivation, develop communication skills, and foster a lasting interest in language learning. Particular attention was paid to practical tools that teachers can effectively use in the classroom. The lecture was held in an interactive format: participants not only learned the theoretical aspects but also took part in practical tasks simulating game-based learning situations. This allowed students and faculty to firsthand appreciate the potential of gamification in the educational process.
