I Republican Distance Olympiad in Tourism at Kazakh-American Free University

From October 10 to October 31, 2022, as part of the celebration of World Tourism Day, senior teachers of the Department of Business of the Kazakh-American Free University Dinara Mamyrbekova and Yelena Sumareva ran the I Republican Distance Olympiad for 1-4th year-students of the educational program “Tourism” in the state, Russian and English languages.

In order to generate interest and increase professional competence among students in the field of tourism and hospitality, the Olympiad was held in two stages: writing an essay and developing a tourist route. The presented works were informative, considered the problems and prospects for the development of rural tourism in Kazakhstan, the prospects for the development of glamping, niche tourism, inclusive tourism, tourism as a factor of individual and collective improvement, etc.

This event was attended by 24 teams from 15 universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan. According to the results of the Olympiad, the places were distributed as follows:

• 1st place – University of International Business (UIB) (Almaty).
• 2nd place – University “Turan Astana” (Astana) and Kenzhegali Sagadiyev University of International Business (Almaty).
• 3rd place – Miras University (Shymkent) and Eurasian Technological University (Almaty).

At the end of the Olympiad, the winners were awarded diplomas of 1,2,3 degrees, team leaders received letters of thanks, all participating teams that did not win prizes were sent certificates for participation.
