Journalism Students Participate in the Discussion of Constitutional Amendments
On January 29, 2026, as part of a course on “Legal Foundations of Journalism,” led by Tatyana V. Levina, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology, second-year students of the Journalism program participated in an online conference organized by the public association “Kadir-Kasiet” dedicated to discussing amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the conference, which was attended by members of the public, prominent lawyers, journalists, and public figures, individual constitutional reform initiatives were discussed. Representatives of the public association noted that while the final list of proposed amendments had not yet been compiled at the time of the event, several key innovations were already under public discussion.
In an open dialogue format, conference participants expressed their opinions on the proposed reforms and also proposed their own ideas for inclusion in the public association’s package of initiatives. Participation in the event allowed students to gain a general understanding of the directions of upcoming constitutional changes, the specifics of legal regulation, and the role of public opinion in the reform process in a practice-oriented format. They also learned about expert assessments and the public’s civic position.
The presentation of the draft new version of the Constitution took place on January 30, and the full package of proposals was published on January 31.
