KAFU Journalism Students Visit Military Unit 5518 of the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan
On February 13, 2026, students from the Journalism program at the Kazakh-American Free University visited Military Unit 5518 of the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The military unit hosted a concert to commemorate the Day of the Withdrawal of Soviet Troops from Afghanistan. The event honored combat veterans, featured patriotic musical numbers, and included a theatrical performance reflecting the events and atmosphere of that period.
Following the concert, the students were given a tour of the unit’s grounds. They were shown samples of military uniforms and learned about the types of weapons used by the unit.
Of particular interest was a meeting with representatives of the unit’s press service. The students received a detailed explanation of the principles of information support for the military unit’s activities, interactions with the media, preparation of press releases, and coverage of events in official media outlets. The visit allowed the future journalists to gain practical insight into the specifics of military press service work and expand their understanding of professional work in the field of information support for government agencies.
We thank the leadership and personnel of Military Unit 5518 of the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the warm welcome, informative program, and the opportunity to learn about the unit’s activities and the work of its press service.
Special thanks go to the open dialogue, professional explanations, and attention to the questions of future journalists.
