KAFU Representatives Took Part in a Meeting with the Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Science and Regional Development
On June 5, 2025, within an official visit to East Kazakhstan region, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Malik N. Otarbayev held a meeting with representatives of the scientific community and universities of the region.
The Kazakh-American Free University took an active part in the event. The President of KAFU, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerezhep A. Mambetkaziyev made a speech on the importance of science for the sustainable development of regions and the need for close interaction between universities and the manufacturing sector of the economy. In his speech, Yerezhep A. Mambetkaziyev emphasized that it is applied science and the integration of university developments with business demands that can become drivers of regional economic growth. He also noted the importance of training scientific personnel and supporting young researchers.
Also, Vice President for International Programs and Cooperation Daniel Ballast, First Vice President Zhassulan Baikenov, Vice-Rector for Research and Development of Postgraduate Education Yulia Gavrilova, as well as the university’s faculty took part in the meeting from KAFU.
Rectors of East Kazakhstan region universities took part in the meeting and presented their initiatives and proposals to strengthen the scientific and educational potential of the region.
During the discussion, the ways of implementing the tasks outlined by the President of the country Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the IV National Kurultai, the development of scientific infrastructure and the expansion of cooperation between universities and industrial enterprises were touched upon.
The visit of Malik N. Otarbayev confirmed the high interest of the state in the development of science, education and innovation in the regions. KAFU intends to continue to actively participate in the formation of the intellectual potential of East Kazakhstan and the entire country.
