Kazakh-American Free University and Michigan State University signed a cooperation agreement

On April 9, 2024, an international cooperation agreement was signed between the Kazakh-American Free University and Michigan State University.

The important agreement was signed by the heads of the two universities, the President of KAFU, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences Erezhep Alkhairovich Mambetkaziev and the Provost Vice-Rector of Michigan State University Thomas D. Jeitschko.

The main subject of the agreement was cooperation in the field of education and science, including the opportunity to exchange scientific and pedagogical publications, as well as students and teachers to participate in academic programs, implement joint research projects and hold conferences, jointly develop educational courses and programs, conduct lectures and seminars and trainings.

The signing of such a significant document was a logical continuation of many years of interaction between universities.

The Kazakh-American Free University took the first step in this direction in 2019, inviting Professor Douglas Hartman from the School of Education at Michigan State University, one of the leading faculties in the world, to the university. Then, together with this university, a number of projects were successfully implemented.

Among them is the UniCEN project, which made it possible to take advanced training courses for teachers of natural science disciplines from ten universities in Kazakhstan.

In addition, in close collaboration with University of Michigan teachers Douglas Hartman and Brendan Cantwell, another very effective project was implemented for rectors and vice-rectors of Kazakhstani universities, “Ex.-leadership program”. During the year, a number of online sessions were held within its framework on various topics related to the management of higher education institutions.

Also, on the basis of KAFU, a summer school was organized for young leaders of universities in Kazakhstan, in which more than 30 people took part. Fruitful interaction continues to this day.

Thus, the School of Education at Michigan State University is currently implementing a school project for the professional development of teachers at a secondary school in the village of Kulynzhon, Samara district of East Kazakhstan region.

Now, on the basis of the signed cooperation agreement, the universities intend to develop and implement joint scientific projects in the field of teaching methods, as well as a joint educational program for master’s degrees. Both sides are fully interested in strengthening and expanding such mutually beneficial ties.

Let us remind you that Michigan State University was founded in 1855, it is one of the largest public research universities in the United States. Almost 50 thousand students study there.
