Practical Session for Guide-Interpreters
On March 27, 2026, students of the Higher College of KAFU majoring in “Translation Studies” attended a practical session conducted by Anna Vitalyevna Smagina, a lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages at the Kazakhstan-American Free University.
The session was held במסגרת the course “Translation in the Fields of Tourism, Culture, and Sports” and was devoted to the topic of translating historical texts, legends, and myths, as well as the basics of storytelling. During the session, students explored the specifics of adapting culturally significant texts for a foreign audience, discussed the differences between literal translation and creative interpretation, and participated in practical tasks focused on producing tourism-oriented translations.
The practical component included working with authentic materials, completing translation assignments, and engaging in role-play activities aimed at developing oral storytelling skills. Participants were able to apply the acquired knowledge in practice and receive feedback on their work.
