Students Meet with Bastien Fresia: Experience in the Mining Industry
On March 4, 2025, a meeting of 2nd and 3rd year students of the «Translation Studies» program with Bastien Fresia, a specialist working in the mining industry, was held at the Kazakh-American Free University.
During the meeting, Bastien shared his experience working with translators and emphasized the importance of accuracy and professionalism in the transfer of technical information. He spoke about the specifics of working in the mining industry, focusing on the key stages of mineral extraction and geological research.
Special attention was paid to the differences between open-pit and underground (shaft) mining methods, as well as the challenges associated with mine safety. Bastien also touched on the topic of old mines that have been operating for more than 20 years and their features.
Another important topic was the use of Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese languages in the mining industry, as these regions play a significant role in the global mining industry.
The meeting allowed the students to better understand the specifics of the work of a translator in technical areas and to expand their knowledge of professional communication in the mining industry.
