The First English Language Teaching Hackathon “AI in ELT”
On October 16, 2025, second- and fourth-year students of the educational programs “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” and “Translation Studies” took part in a hackathon dedicated to the use of artificial intelligence technologies in foreign language teaching. The event brought together young professionals, educators, and IT enthusiasts who are eager to implement innovative approaches in the educational process.
Participants were tasked with designing and presenting AI-assisted lesson plans that included activities to develop all four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The theme of the lesson was Republic Day of Kazakhstan, which not only allowed students to demonstrate their pedagogical and digital competencies but also highlighted the importance of patriotic education and cultural awareness in the context of language teaching.
Each team presented original lesson designs using modern digital tools and AI-based platforms, such as audio generators, chatbots, adaptive tasks, and visual aids. Special attention was given to interactivity, student engagement, and the practical application of knowledge.
A total of 18 teams, comprising 70 students, participated in the hackathon. Each team came up with a unique and creative name.
Participating in the hackathon became a valuable experience for future teachers and translators, allowing them not only to deepen their understanding of teaching methodology but also to broaden their perspective on the application of AI in the educational environment.
The winners of the hackathon were the following teams and their members:
- Team “Tiposhniki” – Makhabbat Nuralina, Zhanel Askarbekova, Polina Martynova, Aruzhan Imasheva
