The First Meeting of the Regional Council for Science of the East Kazakhstan region

On April 28, 2025, the first meeting of the Regional Council for Science of the East Kazakhstan Region was held in Ust-Kamenogorsk.

The event was organized by the Akimat of the East Kazakhstan Region, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the East Kazakhstan D. Serikbayev Technical University.

The key event of the meeting was the speech of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, who spoke about priority reforms in the field of science and innovation aimed at developing applied science in the interests of the economy and industry, as well as about the strategy for strengthening the role of science in the technological development of the country.

In his speech, the President of the Kazakh-American Free University, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerezhep A. Mambetkaziyev emphasized the importance of active development of the scientific sphere, strengthening the connection between science and the manufacturing sector, as well as the introduction of high-tech technologies in the regional economy. He also proposed a number of specific initiatives for the effective organization of the work of the Regional Council and especially noted the need for greater involvement of young people in its activities. The work of the council was attended by Vice President for International Programs and Cooperation of KAFU Daniel Ballast, First Vice President of KAFU Zhassulan Ye. Baikenov, as well as scientists and leading teachers of the university.

The agenda of the meeting was reviewed:

1. On reforms in the field of science and innovation aimed at developing applied science.

2. Discussion of mechanisms for interaction between scientific organizations, universities and enterprises to implement high-tech technologies and improve the competitiveness of products.

3. Miscellaneous: discussion of the composition of the Regional Council and approval of the working group to develop regulations for its work.

Yulia A. Gavrilova, Vice-Rector for Research and Development of Postgraduate Education at KAFU, joined the Regional Council for Science of the East Kazakhstan Region.

The first meeting of the Regional Council for Science of the East Kazakhstan Region was an important step in strengthening the scientific potential of the East Kazakhstan Region and developing interaction between science, education and the manufacturing sector.
