The Secrets of Translation in the Age of AI Discussed at the International Forum of Young Scientists at KAFU
On April 8, 2026, as part of the XVI International Forum of Young Scientists at the Kazakhstan-American Free University, a practical seminar titled “Translation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” was held. The event was conducted under the supervision of Anna Smagina, a lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages.
The speakers were students of the educational program “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” of the American program, who presented reports on актуальные issues of translation in the context of digital transformation. In their research, the students analyzed the specifics of translating texts from English into Russian and Kazakh, as well as in the reverse direction.
During the seminar, participants examined in detail the errors of modern AI technologies, which allowed them to compare the effectiveness of tools such as Context Reverso, DeepL, ChatGPT, and Gemini. They discussed current trends and challenges faced by translators in the context of rapid technological progress, paying special attention to the ethical aspects of the profession.
As a result of the seminar, students noted that the development of artificial intelligence is transforming the work of translators, requiring the acquisition of new digital skills. Events like this contribute to improving the quality of professional training for future specialists and to developing competencies that are most in demand in today’s translation services market.
