Winner of the International Literature Olympiad “The Works of Alexander S. Pushkin”
Valeria Abramochkina, a first-year student of the “Russian Language and Literature in Russian- and Non-Russian-Language Schools” program, won the International Literature Olympiad “The Works of Alexander S. Pushkin,” demonstrating a deep knowledge of classical Russian literature and a high level of preparation in the humanities, taking a distinguished first place!
As part of the Olympiad, participants were asked questions that required not only knowledge of A.S. Pushkin’s works but also the ability to analyze artistic images, historical and cultural context, and the author’s intent. The tasks included identifying external characteristics that emphasize Ruslan in the poem “Ruslan and Lyudmila” as a positive character and a valiant warrior; explaining the meaning of Prince Oleg’s nickname, “the Prophetic”; an analysis of the image of the northern capital in the poem “The Bronze Horseman” and the names Pushkin uses for St. Petersburg.
A separate set of questions was devoted to the poet’s biography and his lyceum circle: participants had to match the nicknames of lyceum students with their real surnames. The tasks also referenced the novel “Eugene Onegin”—in particular, the number and significance of Onegin and Lensky’s meetings—and the story that inspired the story “The Queen of Spades.”
Valeria Abramochkina is a graduate of Secondary School No. 9 in Ust-Kamenogorsk. Her victory in the Olympiad is no coincidence and is directly related to her chosen profession. Winning the Olympiad is particularly significant for a future teacher of Russian language and literature. Working with such tasks develops analytical thinking, attentive reading of literary texts, the ability to perceive details, and interpret a work in a broader cultural context—skills that are fundamental to the professional work of a language teacher. Participation in international Olympiads fosters research interest, deepens literary knowledge, and increases motivation to study the classical heritage of Russian literature.
The International Literature Olympiad was held on the portal of the Federal Center for Information and Educational Resources under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. The competition results can be found at: http://erudyt.ru/
Congratulations to Valeria on her well-deserved victory and we wish her future success in her studies, research, and creative endeavors!
