Books as a Source of Journalistic Ideas

On October 7, 2026, the Kazakhstan-American Free University held a workshop entitled “Books as a Source of Journalistic Ideas” as part of the “Reading Nation” project. The event brought together first- and third-year students enrolled in the Journalism educational program.

During the workshop, students discussed how fiction and nonfiction can help journalists identify relevant topics, create engaging content, and gain a deeper understanding of social processes. Particular attention was paid to turning ideas, plots, and issues raised in books into the basis for interviews, reports, articles, podcasts, and video stories.

The students analyzed examples of journalistic topics inspired by literary works, developed their own ideas, and presented possible formats for bringing them to life.

The workshop demonstrated that books can serve not only as a source of knowledge but also as an important professional tool for journalists, helping them develop critical thinking, observation skills, and a creative approach to working with information.
