Financial Security is the Knowledge that Protects!
On April 10, 2025, an interactive lecture on financial security was held at the Kazakh-American Free University. The lecture covered topics that directly affect the lives of modern people.
The event was held jointly with the Department of Economic Investigations of the East Kazakhstan Region as part of the Financial Security Olympiad.
Experts told students and teachers how to avoid falling into the traps of cyber fraudsters, whose schemes are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Particular attention was paid to the concept of a “dropper” – a person who often becomes an intermediary in criminal schemes without realizing the consequences. Illegally obtained funds pass through such accounts. The lecture participants explained how fraudsters recruit droppers through instant messengers, social networks, and advertisements for “easy money”, as well as how not to become an accomplice to a crime through negligence.
It is also important how attackers can gain access to online banking. The lecturers talked about common methods:
– phishing sites and fake applications;
– calls from the “bank security service”;
– malicious links and spyware.
All these methods are not theories, but real threats that thousands of users face every day.
During the lecture, the participants learned:
– how to distinguish a fake site or application from a real one;
– what to do if you receive suspicious messages from the “bank”;
– what precautions should be taken when making online purchases and transfers.
The interactive format of the event allowed students to ask questions of interest, discuss real-life cases, and also take a mini-test on cyber hygiene – after all, knowledge only works when it can be applied in practice. The students were also awarded memorable prizes.
The Kazakh-American Free University continues to actively develop a culture of digital security among young people because in the modern world, it is important to be able to protect not only your data but also your own future.
