From Authority to Influence: KAFU Discusses the Future of Leadership Education

On October 2, 2026, the Kazakhstan-American Free University hosted a workshop and discussion entitled “From Authority to Influence: The Future of Leadership Education.”

The event was held as part of the International Scientific Congress “The Future of Science and Education: International Experience, Innovation, and Leadership.”

The speaker was David McNamee, PhD, Professor, member of the KAFU Advisory Group, and Senior Research Fellow at Co-Serve, based in South Carolina, USA.

During the meeting, participants discussed changing approaches to leadership and leadership education. Particular attention was given to the shift from leadership based primarily on formal authority and position to leadership built on influence, trust, personal example, and responsibility.

The interactive format allowed participants to share their opinions, exchange experiences, and reflect on the qualities required of modern leaders. Together with the speaker, they explored the role of communication, collaboration, and shared values in developing effective leadership.

The workshop provided a platform for open dialogue about the future of leadership education and the preparation of professionals who can not only make decisions but also bring people together, inspire them, and create opportunities for collective growth.
