I Regional Contest of Presentations «Discover the World of Teacher’s Profession…»

On February 20, 2025, the Kazakh-American Free University hosted the 1st Regional Presentation Competition “Discover the World of the Teacher’s Profession…”. The competition was attended by 11th-grade students who are just deciding on their future profession, as well as students of pedagogical colleges who have already made a vital decision. The participants’ presentations were presented in two languages - Russian and Kazakh.

A jury was formed to evaluate the competition works, which included:

– Natalia A. Nesterenko – Advisor to the Rector of KAFU, Chairman of the Jury;

– Irina N. Gulova – Teacher of Russian Language and Literature, “Secondary School No. 18”;

– Gulzhan B. Edilbaeva – Senior Lecturer, Department of Pedagogy and Psychology, KAFU;

– Yulia V. Gnatyuk – Lecturer, Department of Pedagogy and Psychology, KAFU.

The contest participants prepared creative presentations that raised various aspects of the teaching profession. Many talked about how they decided to become a teacher and what led them to this. All the speakers had their own reasons, but the most common were the influence of their favorite teachers, the prestige of teaching professions, and participation in Self-Government Day.

In their presentations, the participants emphasized the importance and significance of the teacher’s work. They noted that a teacher is a respected profession in Kazakhstan, with a high social status. In addition, teachers have their own professional holiday, as well as the opportunity to participate in various professional competitions. However, there was also a discussion of the difficulties that teachers face. The speakers accompanied their speeches with illustrative material and quotes that revealed the topic in more depth.

One of the key points of the competition was the discussion of modern technologies actively used in the educational process. The participants paid special attention to artificial intelligence and digital platforms. They talked about how these technologies can be used in teaching, which of them are the most relevant today and what positive or negative consequences they can entail. One of the presentations touched on a relevant topic: can artificial intelligence replace a teacher?

After each presentation, the jury members asked clarifying questions regarding the choice of topic, the motives for choosing a profession and the aspects raised in the presentations. This made it possible to more deeply reveal the nuances of pedagogical activity and identify the level of awareness of the participants on the issues raised.

Individually, 11th grade students were offered a unique opportunity to enroll in a specialized class at KAFU, which will allow them to get closer to their dream and more accurately determine whether the teaching profession is right for them.

At the end of the competition, the jury summed up the results and determined the best presentations. The winners received certificates and invaluable experience in participating in such events.
