Introduction to Kazakhstan’s Spiritual Culture: KAFU Guests Visit the Khalifa Altai Mosque
On May 17, 2026, as part of the international program “Cumberland–KAFU History and Culture Exchange Program,” students and faculty members from the University of the Cumberlands (USA) visited the Khalifa Altai Mosque in Ust-Kamenogorsk.
The экскурсия was part of the cultural and educational program of Kazakhstan-American Free University aimed at introducing international participants to the history, traditions, and spiritual heritage of Eastern Kazakhstan.
During the visit, the guests learned about the mosque’s architecture, the history of its establishment, and its significance for the city’s Muslim community. Participants were introduced to religious traditions, rules of conduct in the mosque, the activities of imams, and the role of spiritual centers in society.
The students showed particular interest in visiting the Museum of Islam, where they learned more about the history of Islam in Kazakhstan, the cultural and spiritual values of the Muslim world, and the educational activities of the religious institution.
The visit to the Khalifa Altai Mosque became an important part of the intercultural exchange program and allowed participants to gain a deeper understanding of Kazakhstan’s cultural and religious diversity, strengthening the atmosphere of mutual respect and international dialogue.
