KAFU Holds a Mock Trial as Part of the International Forum of Young Scientists
On April 16, 2026, as part of the 16th International Forum of Young Scientists, students from the Kazakh-American Free University held a mock trial on the topic of “Criminal Trial in the Court of First Instance.” The event also celebrated the implementation of the “Law and Order” (Zan men tәrtіp) concept.
Opening the event, Ermek M. Zhunuspekov, a lecturer in the Department of Law and International Relations, noted that the purpose of the meeting was to demonstrate a mock trial dedicated to the problem of domestic violence. This trial topic attracted the interest of first- to third-year students as one of the most relevant and socially significant.
During the event, participants presented a criminal trial involving several articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan: Article 110, Part 1 (“Torture”), Article 108, Part 1 (“Intentional Infliction of Minor Bodily Harm”), Article 105, Part 1 (“Incitement to Suicide”), and Article 140, Part 1 (“Failure to Fulfill Duties to Raise a Minor”).
The students played the roles of a judge, a court secretary, a prosecutor, a lawyer, a victim, a defendant, a district police officer, a forensic expert, and a clinical psychologist. The trial was presented in an emotional and realistic manner, bringing the training simulation as close as possible to actual court practice.
Following the event, Natalya P. Urazova, Senior Lecturer in the Business Department and Vice-Rector for Youth Policy, expressed her gratitude to the participants and spectators. In her speech, she emphasized that such events are held at the university annually and provide important practical experience for students. She also noted the students’ high level of preparation, professionalism, and acting skills, and expressed pride in their work and attention to detail.
