KAFU Representatives Participate in an International Workshop on the Use of AI in English Language Teaching

From June 1 to 5, 2026, undergraduate and graduate students, and Anna A. Oskolkova, senior lecturer in the Department of Foreign Languages at the Kazakh-American Free University, participated in the 5th International Workshop “Applying AI to Enhance EL Teaching to STEM Learners,” held at D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University.

The international educational program focused on modern approaches to the use of artificial intelligence technologies in teaching English to students majoring in engineering, technology, and the natural sciences. Participants in the workshop included teachers from schools, colleges, and universities in the East Kazakhstan region interested in developing digital competencies and implementing innovative educational technologies. Over several days, participants explored modern AI tools, learned about leading global practices in teaching English in STEM education, and mastered methods for creating interactive teaching materials and personalized educational resources.

The program was moderated by international expert Jeremy Tarbutton, who presented current trends in the development of artificial intelligence in education and effective ways to integrate it into the educational process. The practice-oriented format allowed participants not only to gain new knowledge but also to immediately apply it to solve professional problems.

For KAFU representatives, participation in the workshop was an opportunity to become familiar with modern educational technologies, exchange experiences with colleagues from various educational institutions in the region, and expand their professional competencies in teaching foreign languages using digital tools.

The program concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony. The event’s guest of honor was Colin Guard, Cultural Attaché of the US Embassy in Astana, who noted the significant potential of artificial intelligence for improving the quality of education and training a new generation of specialists.

The participation of KAFU faculty and students in such international educational initiatives promotes professional development, the implementation of modern teaching practices, and the strengthening of international academic cooperation.

This approach makes the participation of KAFU representatives the highlight of the event, while the workshop itself serves as a platform for their professional development.
