KAFU Students Discuss Moral Choices

On September 28, 2026, as part of the state program “Reading Nation,” a Book Club session was held for first-year students enrolled in the American Program. The event focused on a discussion of Ursula K. Le Guin’s short story The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas.

The session was led by P. A. Kulik. The main objective of the event was to develop students’ interest in reading fiction in English, as well as to improve their critical thinking, text analysis, and speaking skills.

During the Book Club session, students became familiar with key vocabulary from the story, analyzed its plot and the author’s intention, discussed the characters’ actions, and explored the moral and ethical issues raised in the work. Particular attention was paid to questions of personal responsibility, the well-being of society, and moral choice.

The Book Club format encouraged students to actively exchange opinions, support their viewpoints with arguments, and use English in a meaningful discussion.
