Law and Order: Youth Against Drugs

On September 15, 2026, Kazakhstan-American Free University, in cooperation with the youth wing “Zhastar Rukhy” of the “Adilet” Party, held an information and awareness-raising meeting as part of the “Law and Order” initiative.

The main focus of the meeting was preventing drug use among young people and combating the illegal trafficking of narcotic substances.

A special feature of the event was a video link with Penal Institution No. 17 of the Committee of the Penal System, during which inmates serving sentences for drug-related distribution offences shared their personal stories with the students.

It was an open and direct conversation, without formalities or abstract examples. The students heard real stories about how a single decision, the desire to make quick money, trusting suspicious offers, or becoming involved in criminal activities can completely change a person’s life and lead to serious consequences.

During the meeting, students were able to see the other side of so-called “easy money” and understand that drug trafficking is not just about criminal cases and statistics. Behind them are lives disrupted, opportunities lost, years of imprisonment, and the suffering of loved ones.

Particular attention was paid to criminal liability for drug distribution, modern methods of involving young people in the illegal trafficking of prohibited substances, and the importance of critically evaluating offers received through social networks and messengers.

Such meetings are important because prevention should speak to young people in a language they understand and show the real consequences of their choices.

Today, society’s task is not simply to tell young people, “Don’t do it,” but to help them understand the consequences of an impulsive decision and develop a firm position: life, freedom, and the future are far more valuable than any quick profit.

Kazakhstan-American Free University and the “Zhastar Rukhy” youth wing of the “Adilet” Party will continue their information and awareness-raising efforts aimed at developing legal awareness, civic responsibility, and a strong rejection of drugs among young people.
