Library Uniting Generations: Pushkin’s Library Celebrates Its 130th Anniversary

The A.S. Pushkin East Kazakhstan Regional Library celebrated a significant date – 130 years since its founding, a milestone event for the region’s cultural, educational, and scientific communities.

The ceremony was attended by Ust-Kamenogorsk Mayor Almat T. Akyshov, along with representatives of government agencies, educational institutions, public organizations, and the library’s long-standing partners.

On behalf of the President of the Kazakh-American Free University, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerezhep A. Mambetkaziev, KAFU Rector Advisor Natalia A. Nesterenko and KAFU Vice-Rector and Director of the KAFU Higher College Marina I. Kikina congratulated the library staff. In their address, they noted the special role of the Pushkin’s Library. Pushkin’s Library as a center of knowledge, culture, education, and public dialogue, which for many years has united people of different generations around books, science, and education.

The congratulatory message focused on the long-standing collaboration between KAFU and the library. The university regularly donates educational, scientific, and methodological publications, as well as scientific journals prepared by KAFU faculty and researchers, to the library collection. This makes the results of the university’s research accessible to a wide range of readers, students, and scholars.

An important area of the partnership is training library professionals. Over the years, KAFU has successfully implemented the bachelor’s degree program “Archival Science and Library and Information Work,” whose graduates include many A.S. Pushkin’s Library staff. Today, the traditions of professional training continue at KAFU’s Higher College, where the “Library Science” program is taught.

Another significant area of collaboration is the American Corner, which operates within the library. The library regularly hosts educational, cultural, and outreach events featuring KAFU faculty, international specialists, and students. Joint projects foster international cooperation, intercultural dialogue, and academic ties.

The library’s anniversary not only serves as a chance to reflect on years of work but also to express gratitude to the staff for their high professionalism, dedication, and enormous contribution to the development of culture, education, and science in East Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh-American Free University congratulates the staff of the A.S. Pushkin East Kazakhstan Regional Library on its anniversary and wishes them new achievements, exciting projects, grateful readers, and continued prosperity.
