Meeting with a Practicing Translator: New Professional Benchmarks
On April 27, 2026, a meeting with senior and master’s students majoring in Translation Studies and Maxim A. Belyaev, a practicing translator from KAZZINC LLP, was held at the Kazakh-American Free University.
During the meeting, the speaker shared his current experience in industrial and business translation and elaborated on key aspects of translator professional development in the modern world.
Particular attention was paid to the following topics:
– Translator competencies abroad: Participants discussed the requirements of the international market, the need for proficiency in professional terminology, intercultural communication, and adaptation skills in a multilingual environment.
– Translation of business correspondence: The participants discussed the specifics of translating official letters, business inquiries, and corporate communications, taking into account business etiquette standards.
– Translator’s office work: The speaker discussed working with documentation, translation design, interaction with clients, and professional documentation management. Maxim A. Belyaev also shared his personal experience of finding employment, the specifics of working as a translator in the industrial sector, and answered students’ questions.
The meeting took the form of a lively dialogue and generated great interest among the students, allowing them to better understand the real demands of the profession and plan further steps in their professional development.
