Practical Fundamental Training in Journalism and Digital Literacy for Rural Youth in Kazakh Villages

1010 children from eight districts of the East Kazakhstan region took part in a program to learn the basics of journalism and social media within the framework of the project “Practical Fundamental Training in Journalism and Digital Literacy for Rural Youth in Kazakh Villages.” The project was implemented on the initiative and with the support of the US Embassy in Kazakhstan through the KAFU Alumni Association and with the support of the Department of Internal Policy of the East Kazakhstan region. The trips were carried out according to an established schedule throughout the year, except for the winter months, to settlements in the mountain-steppe regions, more than 200 kilometers away from the regional center. As a result of this project, at least 32 villages were covered. In total, the project involves 8 districts with 4-5 villages in each. The training involved schoolchildren from all remote rural districts of the region. The classes were conducted by one journalist and two experts in the field of SMM. Classes were held in villages of the Samar and Altai regions, Tarbagatai, Zaisan, Kurchum, and Katon-Karagay districts, and Ridder and Shemonaikha districts.
