School on Central Asia – 2025
From July 8 to 12, 2025, the international scientific and educational program of the Foundation “School on Central Asia – 2025” was held in Bishkek and Issyk-Kul, organized in partnership with the Institute of Strategic Analysis and Forecasting of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University.
The program brought together more than 20 young researchers from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and other countries, whose focus was on the issues of transformation and development prospects of the energy complex of the Central Asian countries. Among the participants was Saveliy A. Muzhchil, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Law and International Relations.
The first working day was focused on discussing the strategic directions of energy development in the region – the participants compared national priorities with global trends, analyzed the involvement of external actors, and assessed risks.
The second day of the program was devoted to the geopolitics of resources and the interests of global players in the energy arena of Central Asia. The participants presented analytical reports and then took part in team debates, modeling scenarios for increasing gas exports from Turkmenistan in the interests of Europe, China, and Southeast Asia.
Renewable energy sources, nuclear energy, transboundary water diplomacy, as well as national strategies of Central Asian countries, became the subject of a substantive discussion on the final day of the School.
The program resulted in the presentation of research projects devoted to issues of geopolitical aspects of energy, mechanisms of interregional cooperation, prospects for peaceful atom, challenges for renewable energy sources, and the creation of a common electricity market within the EAEU. The format of the project sessions allowed the participants not only to summarize the knowledge they had gained, but also to present their own analytical solutions, receiving feedback from experts.
