Scientific Bridge Between Kazakhstan and Russia: Delegation from Altai State University Participates in the International KAFU Forum

On April 9, 2026, as part of the XVI International Forum of Young Scientists of the Kazakhstan-American Free University, a guest lecture was held on the topic: “Theoretical and Methodological Approaches to the Study of Nomadic Societies.” The speaker was Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Yulia Aleksandrovna Lysenko (Barnaul, Russia).

The visit of Professor Y.A. Lysenko, who heads the Department of Oriental Studies at Altai State University and the Research and Educational Center for Altaic and Turkic Studies “Greater Altai,” became a practical example of successful scientific and educational cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia. The participation of the delegation from Barnaul in the KAFU Young Scientists Forum confirms the strategic nature of the partnership between the two universities, united by a common research space of the transboundary region.

During the lecture, modern perspectives on the history of nomadism were presented, with special attention given to joint research projects of scholars from our countries. The professor emphasized that the study of nomadic civilizations is not only an academic task, but also a foundation for strengthening cultural dialogue and good-neighborly relations in the Central Asian region.

For young scientists of KAFU, the visit of Russian colleagues became a platform for direct exchange of experience and discussion of prospects for joint publications and expeditions. Such interaction within the forum clearly demonstrates that science has no borders, and that combining the efforts of leading universities of Kazakhstan and Russia makes it possible to implement large-scale projects aimed at preserving the historical heritage of the peoples of Greater Altai.

The forum organizers note that the participation of the Altai State University delegation gives the conference an international status and opens new horizons for the development of student and faculty mobility between our countries.
