Stop Bullying: Learning to Communicate Safely

On October 13, 2026, a discussion on “Bullying and Cyberbullying” was held at the Kazakh-American Free University as part of the “Adal Azamat” program. First-year students from the “Translation Studies” (6B02301) and “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages (English)” (6B01703) programs participated in the event, which was led by Elvira B. Akhmetchanova, a lecturer in the Department of Foreign Languages.

The students discussed the issues of bullying and cyberbullying, covering their main forms, causes, and potential consequences. By analyzing various real-life scenarios, participants learned to distinguish between ordinary conflict, disrespectful behavior, bullying, and cyberbullying.

During the discussion, students shared their views on various statements, substantiated their positions, and examined the roles of the victim, the aggressor, the bystander, and the active defender. Special attention was paid to how witnesses of bullying could safely support the victim and help put a stop to the behavior.

Working in groups, participants examined scenarios involving offensive messages, the spreading of rumors, posting photos without permission, creating fake accounts, and intentionally excluding someone from a group.

To conclude the session, the students created thematic posters and formulated guidelines for safe and respectful online communication. The event helped raise awareness about bullying and cyberbullying, fostered critical thinking skills, and emphasized the importance of respect, mutual support, and responsible behavior in both real life and the digital space.
