“Taza Kazakhstan: Translating Ideas — Changing Society”

On September 21, 2026, as part of the implementation of the state program “Taza Kazakhstan,” a professional discussion titled “Taza Kazakhstan: Translating Ideas — Changing Society” was held for third-year students of the Translation Studies educational program of the American Program at KAFU.

The event focused on the role of language and translation in promoting socially significant initiatives, environmental values, and a culture of responsible attitudes toward the environment. Students discussed how translators can contribute to shaping modern public discourse and help promote social and environmental ideas among representatives of different linguistic and cultural communities.

During the professional discussion, participants worked with examples of social advertisements, environmental slogans, and public messages. They analyzed the specific features of translating and adapting such materials for English-speaking audiences. Particular attention was paid to preserving the meaning, emotional impact, and communicative purpose of the original texts.

The practical part of the event allowed students to apply their translation skills while working with relevant socially significant materials, as well as demonstrate their intercultural communication, pragmatic adaptation, and creative translation skills.

Such activities help future translators understand that professional work involves not only conveying information in another language but also taking responsibility for how socially significant ideas are perceived by representatives of another culture.

The event was organized by Anna Vitalyevna Smagina, Lecturer at the Department of Foreign Languages.
