The Art of Talking About Art: An Art Therapy Workshop
On October 1, 2026, as part of the “Harmonious Individual” state program, Anna A. Oskolkova, a senior lecturer in the Department of Foreign Languages, conducted an art therapy workshop titled “Describing and Evaluating Works of Art in English.” The event was attended by second-year students from the “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” and “Translation Studies” (Kazakhstani program) degree programs.
During the workshop, students learned the vocabulary and linguistic structures needed to describe paintings, express emotions, and provide reasoned evaluations of artworks in English. Participants analyzed artistic imagery, shared personal impressions, and learned to interpret the artist’s intent.
The event fostered the development of the students’ language and communication skills, creative thinking, and emotional intelligence. Incorporating elements of art therapy helped create a welcoming atmosphere where every participant could freely express their opinions and unlock their creative potential.
