XV International Forum of Young Scientists: Guest Lecture on “Non-suicidal Self-Harm in Adolescents in Expert Practice”
On April 8, 2025, a guest lecture in the format of a video conference on the topic “Non-suicidal Self-Harm in Adolescents in Expert Practice” was held at the Kazakh-American Free University. The speaker was Anna A. Korobeinikova, a psychologist, a student of the professional retraining program “Forensic Examination” at Lomonosov Moscow State University (Moscow, Russia).
The event was held within the framework of the XV International Forum of Young Scientists “Modern Scientific Directions: from Applied Research to Innovations”, bringing together students and teachers of the EP “Psychology”, “Jurisprudence” and “Journalism”.
The lecture covered three areas at once: psychiatry, psychology and forensic expertology. Special attention was paid to non-suicidal self-harming behavior — a form of self-harm not aimed at taking one’s own life.
Anna A. Korobeinikova covered in detail the causes, age characteristics and forms of non-suicidal self-harming behavior:
– the onset is most often observed at the age of 12-14;
– the peak occurs at the age of 15-16;
– by the age of 18, the prevalence decreases.
Statistics were presented, risk factors, classification of types of non-suicidal self-harming behavior, as well as diagnostic criteria for disorders according to the DSM-5 classification were considered.
The legal aspect of the lecture revealed the approaches of forensic psychologists and experts to recognizing non-suicidal self-harming behavior, the methods used in conducting psychological examinations, as well as the features of the four-factor model of non-suicidal self-harming behavior analysis.
The meeting was held in an interactive format: participants asked questions and received detailed answers. In conclusion, all listeners were awarded certificates of participation.
The lecture became a significant contribution to the training of future specialists capable of working at the intersection of science, law and psychology.
