Journey to the Land of Abai
On May 16–17, 2026, lecturers and students of the Educational Programs in “Journalism,” “Kazakh Language and Literature,” and “Physical Education and Sports” from the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology of the Kazakhstan-American Free University took part in an educational excursion to the homeland of such great figures as Abai, Mukhtar, and Shakarim.
This two-day trip broadened the participants’ spiritual awareness and provided an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of historical sites.
The first destination of the excursion was the Abai Literary and Memorial Museum in the city of Semey. The museum showcased valuable exhibits related to the life and works of the great poet and presented the profound heritage of Abai’s world.
After that, the journey continued toward the village of Karaul. Along the way, the group made a special stop at the house-museum of the outstanding figure of Kazakh literature, Mukhtar Auezov, in Borili, where they learned about the writer’s life and creative path. In addition, the participants explored the history of the monuments dedicated to Kushikbay Batyr and Enlik-Kebek, which widely promote the spiritual heritage of the Kazakh people.
One of the most significant parts of the excursion was the visit to Zhidebay. This place, considered a sacred land of Kazakh spirituality, introduced the participants to historical sites connected with the life and legacy of the great Abai Kunanbayev, leaving them with unforgettable impressions.
The educational trip not only enhanced the students’ historical and cultural knowledge, but also opened the way to a deeper understanding of national values.
