The “Reading Nation” Marathon at KAFU – Developing a Culture of Reading and Spiritual and Moral Values

On October 23, 2026, an event aimed at promoting reading, developing the intellectual potential of young people, and strengthening spiritual and moral values was held at the Kazakh-American Free University as part of the “Reading Nation” program.

The event was attended by first- to fourth-year students of the “Kazakh Language and Literature” program, led by G. B. Edilbaeva, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology.

The main goal of the meeting was to foster a lasting interest in fiction, develop critical thinking, a reading culture, and a conscious attitude toward universal and national values. Particular attention was paid to the role of books in nurturing responsible, educated, and spiritually developed individuals in accordance with the values of the “Adal Azamat” program. During the event, students discussed the work translated by poet and translator Sayat Kamshyger. Participants shared their impressions of the text and explored issues of family values, respect for parents, moral responsibility, and intergenerational continuity. The discussion allowed them to understand the importance of fiction in shaping the worldview and moral compass of young people.

The meeting also included an interactive game, “A Word to Mother,” during which students wrote heartfelt wishes to their mothers. This part of the event was dedicated to strengthening family values and cultivating gratitude, respect, and care for loved ones.

The meeting concluded with the launch of the student challenge “My Favourite Book.” Students in the Kazakh Language and Literature program passed the literary baton to students in the Journalism program, inviting them to read and discuss Sanzhar Kerimbay’s book “Being.”

Such events contribute to the achievement of the goals of the “Reading Nation” program, the development of youth intellectual and spiritual culture, the popularization of reading, and the education of citizens oriented toward the principles of responsibility, creative work, and respect for national values.
