Foreign Languages Department
The department provides training in the following educational programs: “Translation Studies”, “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” (English), and also trains master’s students in the educational programs “Foreign Language: two foreign languages”, “Translation studies”, “Foreign philology”.
The Department of Foreign Languages employs 15 full-time teachers. The average age of the faculty members is 40 years. All teachers of the department have an academic master’s degree or a research degree, have deep knowledge in the field of methodology of teaching foreign languages, extensive experience in intercultural communication, and are constantly working on improving their professional level. All teachers undergo advanced training courses at least once every three years. The main forms of advanced training in the department are participation in language seminars of Goethe Institute, participation in seminars and training at KAFU, advanced training courses at the Kazakh University of the International Relations and World Languages (Almaty) and the Republican Institute for Advanced Training of Managerial and Scientific and Pedagogical Workers of the Education System of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Orleu”, internship programs at universities in the USA and Germany.
All students of the educational programs “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages”, “Translation Studies” and “Foreign Philology” are trained according to the curricula that meet the requirements of the modern educational market. “Translation Studies” students have the opportunity to obtain additional specialization in the field of management and tourism (Minor programs); “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” students have the opportunity to obtain additional specialization in the field of translation (Minor program).
All undergraduate students of the Foreign Languages department study two foreign languages. English is studied as the main foreign language; students can choose German, Spanish, Chinese, or Turkish as their second foreign language.
There are specially equipped classrooms – a language lab and a classroom for teaching foreign languages.
The students can develop their research skills by participating in the activities of the student research society “Lingua”.
Also, at the Department of Foreign Languages, there is a Linguistic Center, which offers services for additional study of foreign languages for students and the community, courses in preparation for TOEFL and IELTS, as well as courses for preparing to take a comprehensive admission test to a master’s degree.
